Women's Basketball Defeats SLC for Fourth Straight Win

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC women's basketball team picked up their fourth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Sarah Lawrence College, 74-51. The Rams improved to 14-8 overall and 11-6 in Skyline Conference play, while the Gryphons dropped to 5-18 and 4-14 in the Skyline.

Farmingdale State scored the first six points on layups by seniors Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) and Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.). Following two SLC free-throws, sophomore forward Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Rams a 10-point advantage at 12-2.

The Gryphons trailed 21-11 after the first quarter, but opened the second with two free-throws and a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to five. The Rams responded with two points from sophomore guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) and a Greenwald 3 to regain the 10-point lead, 26-16.

FSC led 33-24 and closed the half with 10 unanswered points as they took a 43-24 advantage into the break. Wooden led all scorers with 12 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Rams opened the second half with 3-pointers by Pohalski and Greenwald, and a jumper by Walbroehl, to quickly take a commanding 25-point lead, 51-26. They were up 60-34 at the end of three quarters and led by as many as 31, 69-38, with 6:08 remaining.

Farmingdale State added a Wooden layup and a Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) 3-pointer down the stretch as they earned the 74-51 Skyline Conference victory.

FSC had five players score in double digits, with Wooden leading the way with 16 points. Amenta knocked down a trio of 3-pointers and ended with 11 points, while Greenwald produced 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Pohalski tallied 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals and Walbroehl added 10 points and five rebounds. Simmons chipped in with seven points, three rebounds and a career-high five assists in the win.

The Rams will next travel to play Yeshiva University on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
