Farmingdale State - 53, Yeshiva - 35
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned their fifth straight Skyline Conference victory with a 53-35 win over Yeshiva University on Monday night. FSC improved to 15-8 overall and 12-6 in Skyline Conference play, while YU dropped to 4-19, 4-14. The Rams have secured their spot in the playoffs and currently sit in fifth place with just two regular season games remaining.
After the Maccabees scored the first five points of the game, Farmingdale State closed the first quarter on a 10-3 run, including four points apiece by guards
Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) and
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.), to take a two-point advantage into the second.
FSC extended their lead in the second on layups by senior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) and Simmons, as well as a 3-pointer by Conte, to go up, 17-8.
The Rams led 19-14 and closed the first half with a Conte jumper and an
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) layup as they led 23-14 at the break.
Farmingdale State increased the lead to 14, 39-25, heading into the fourth quarter and used a pair of jumpers by sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) as they went ahead, 43-25. Following a Yeshiva basket, Conte,
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) and
Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) tallied two points each in a 6-0 run to give FSC their largest lead of the game at 49-27.
The Rams added layups by
Anayah Lloyd (Freeport, N.Y.) and
Tatiyanna Perez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) down the stretch as they went on for the 53-35 win.
Conte led all scorers and had a career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Wooden produced 10 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Simmons had six points and two rebounds. Junior guard
Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) added five points and five rebounds and Pohalski ended with five points, five assists and four rebounds. Walbroehl pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the victory.
The Rams next play host to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. on Senior Night.
