Evans Scores 18 as Men's Basketball Falls at NYU

NEW YORK, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by NYU, 84-68, in non-conference play. FSC dropped to 6-2 on the season, while the Violets, who are receiving votes in the latest Division III Top-25 poll, improved to 7-1.

NYU opened the game with seven straight three-pointers to build a 21-11 lead just under six minutes in.

FSC trailed 28-14 before recording 10 consecutive points to close within four. Senior guard Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) started the run with a pair of free-throws. The Rams then used baskets from junior forward Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.), senior guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.), Conroy and junior guard Derek Reed (Shinnecock, N.Y.) to close the gap.

Farmingdale State was down 40-34 at halftime and, after trading baskets, cut their deficit to just two, 50-48. Notias followed with a jumper to knot the game at 50-50.

NYU responded with seven straight points to go up, 57-50. After an FSC layup, the Violets knocked down a pair of 3's to go up by 11, 63-52, with 9:08 left on the clock.

New York University maintained at least a 10-point lead down the stretch as they went on for the 84-68 non-conference victory.

Evans finished with a team-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Notias scored 17 points to go with four assists and three rebounds, and Conroy totaled 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Junior forward Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) finished with five points, seven rebounds and four assists, and sophomore Jordan Tucker (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added four points, three rebounds and four assists off the bench.

Farmingdale State returns home for a non-conference matchup against Swarthmore on Wednesday, December 10th at 7 p.m.
