Manhattanville - 74, Farmingdale State - 56
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted Skyline opponent Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon and fell by a score of 74-56. FSC dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Valiants improved to 3-2, 2-0.
After Manhattanville outscored the Rams 18-8 in the first quarter and led 31-18 midway through the second, Farmingdale State used an
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) jumper and a layup from junior forward
Samyah Allen (Queen Village, N.Y.) to cut their deficit to nine.
Following a Manhattanville layup, Allen produced five consecutive points to close within six, 33-27, with a minute to play in the half.
The Valiants registered a layup from Esther Ramos before FSC responded with a pair of
Nia Phillips (Glen Cove, N.Y.) free-throws and a turn around jumper from Allen at the buzzer to make it a four-point game at halftime, 35-31.
Over the first four minutes of the third quarter, Manhattanville regained a nine-point lead at 42-33. Farmingdale State answered with a 6-1 run to once again pull within four, 43-39, but the Valiants closed the quarter with four straight points as they held a 47-39 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
Manhattanville's Julie DeBrocky recorded a 3-pointer and a jumper to start the fourth quarter to go up by 13. The Valiants maintained at least a 10-point edge the rest of the way as they picked up the 74-56 Skyline victory.
Allen led the Rams with a career-best 21 points. She shot 10-for-15 from the field with five rebounds. Walbroehl produced 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while freshman forward
Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.Â
Ramos registered a game-high 24 points for MVL, while DeBrocky contributed 18 points.
Farmingdale State will next play host to Merchant Marine in a Skyline game on Tuesday, November 6th at 6:00 p.m.
