NEW HAVEN, Conn. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team played its first road contest of the season Thursday night, falling to Albertus Magnus College, 65-58.
FSC (1-1) led 14-11 after one period of play, with junior
Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) scoring five points during a seven-point spurt. The Rams carried a 27-22 advantage into halftime, before the Falcons (1-3) ran off a 26-12 surge in the third quarter to lead 48-39.
Farmingdale State evened the score with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter, when junior
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) canned a 3-pointer from the left wing to make the score 50-50. With Albertus Magnus ahead by four points a short time later, Simmons knocked down an 18-foot jumper to cut FSC's deficit to 56-54 with 2:58 on the clock. From there, the Falcons notched the next seven points to secure their first victory of the campaign.
Senior forward
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) led three double-figure scorers for Farmingdale State with 20 points to go along with six rebounds, while Simmons (7-of-15 FG) added 17 points and six boards. Allen shot 5-of-10 from the floor on her way to a stat line of 11 points, six caroms, two assists and three blocked shots.
FSC kicks off Skyline Conference play on Wednesday night (Nov. 19), when it tips off at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at 6.
