Volleyball Captures Sweep in Skyline Play at Maritime

Farmingdale State 3, Maritime 0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-19)
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. | Led by a double-double from sophomore outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.), the Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team took home a 3-0, Skyline Conference victory on Thursday night at SUNY Maritime College.

Russo hit .267 on a match-high 16 kills to go along with 10 digs and two service aces, while junior pin hitter Sarah Kollarik (Levittown, N.Y.) floored nine kills and passed 15 digs. Senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) led all players with five service aces and 30 assists, and the Rams (14-8, 6-3 Skyline) received three total blocks apiece from middle blockers Lauren Offermann (Sr.; North Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Emily Chiappetta (Fr.; Farmingville, N.Y.). Offermann and freshman middle Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) put down six kills each, while senior Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and junior Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) tallied 17 and 10 digs, respectively.

Rende tallied four aces and one kill in a six-point start to the match in the opening set, and combined with sophomore Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to close out the set with a 6-1 run for the Rams.

There were 19 ties in the second set, with FSC taking advantage of a pair of attacking errors by the Privateers (9-12, 2-7) to break a 28-all tie to go ahead by a 2-0 count.

The third set saw the Rams down 7-4, before the visitors ripped off seven-consecutive points behind Salinas's serving and three kills from Russo. After Maritime closed to within a 16-15 margin, Farmingdale State began to pull away with four-consecutive points – including a combined block by Chiappetta and Offermann, and two kills from the senior.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline play on Saturday (Nov. 1), when it travels to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a 1 p.m. first serve.
