Farmingdale State 71, Brooklyn 62
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Behind a 29-point fourth quarter and three scorers in double figures, the Farmingdale State College women's basketball team picked up a 71-62 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon over visiting Brooklyn College.
FSC (8-4), winners in three straight and six of its last seven, shot 7-of-12 (.583) from the field and 15-of-19 (.789) from the free-throw line in the final quarter to pick up the win over the Bulldogs (5-7). The victory was the home team's first over Brooklyn since 2009, and its second in the teams' 12 meetings.
With a one-point lead with 8:10 left in the game, the host Rams scored the next 11 points of the contest to hold a 57-45 edge when sophomore

Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) converted an old-fashioned 3-point play and senior
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of free throws. Brooklyn got no closer than seven points the rest of the way, with FSC canning 11-of-14 free throws in the final 3:18 to close out its regular-season non-conference slate with the victory.
The Bulldogs led 21-10 after one period of play courtesy of a 12-0 run, before Farmingdale State ripped off seven-straight points midway through the second frame to cut its deficit to 25-22 with 4:44 left in the half behind four-straight points from senior
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.). After Brooklyn nailed a 3-pointer in its next trip down the floor, FSC senior guard
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) buried a trifecta of her own off a pass from Wooden (team-high 18 points, seven rebounds) 15 seconds before intermission to bring the home side to within a 28-25 count at the interval.
In the third period, the Bulldogs went ahead 35-29 at the 6:43 mark. The Rams countered with 12 of the next 13 points, including a pair of field goals by freshman
Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) with 3:43 remaining to push FSC in front 41-36. Brooklyn notched five of the last six points of the quarter to cut its deficit to 42-41, before Farmingdale State registered its 29-point fourth period to pick up the win.
Simmons scored all of her career-high 17 points in the second half on 6-of-12 shooting to go with five rebounds, while Greenwald added 11 points, six boards and three assists. Pohalski (team-high eight rebounds) and Walbroehl each chipped in with seven points in the victory.
Farmingdale State resumes Skyline Conference play for the remainder of its regular-season slate on Tuesday night (Jan. 7), when it plays host to St. Joseph's University-Long Island at 6.
