NEWBURGH, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team fell in Skyline Conference action at Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, dropping a 90-37 contest to the host Knights.
Seniors
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) and
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) scored a 3-pointer and jump shot, respectively, inside the first minute of the game to put the Rams (10-8, 7-6 Skyline) ahead of MSMC (10-8, 10-3) by a 5-2 score. Pohalski's fast-break layup at the 4:55 mark of the first period pushed FSC ahead 9-7, before the Knights went on a 15-2 run on their way to a 22-13 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
After sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) buried a 3-point field goal 13 seconds into the second quarter to cut her team's deficit to six points, Mount Saint Mary embarked on a 16-1 spurt on its way to holding a 42-23 edge at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, Wooden scored five-consecutive points before Greenwald knocked down a long-range trifecta, bringing the Rams to within a 47-31 count. From there, FSC could not draw any closer, as MSMC netted the final 12 points of the period.
Wooden finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the visitors, while Pohalski chipped in with eight points and five boards. Junior guard
Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) passed out a game-high-tying four assists for FSC, which is back home in Skyline action Tuesday night (Jan. 28) against Purchase in a 6 p.m. tip-off.
