Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) posted career-highs with 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Farmingdale State College women's basketball team to a 66-36 Skyline victory at Sarah Lawrence College on Friday afternoon. The Rams improved to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the win.
FSC opened the game with 11 unanswered points, including seven by Pohalski and two apiece from guards
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) and
Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.).
The Rams led 20-7 after one quarter and extended their lead to 17 with baskets by Pohalski and freshman
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) early in the second.
The Gryphons (4-8, 3-5 Skyline) cut their deficit to 16, 35-19, in the third, but a 9-2 run by Farmingdale State allowed them to take a commanding 23-point advantage.
FSC held a 55-27 lead at the end of three quarters and outscored Sarah Lawrence 11-9 in the fourth as they went on for the 66-36 win.
Pohalski was 10-for-19 from the field, including a trio of 3-pointers, en route to her 25 points. She had 10 defensive rebounds, three assists, three steals and did not turn the ball over once. Junior guard
Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) produced nine points, 11 rebounds and two steals, while senior guard
Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) and Tsiforas had eight points each. Amenta added nine points and three assists in 18 minutes played and Simmons chipped in with four points and four rebounds.
FSC will next travel to conference opponent Old Westbury on Tuesday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m.
