2024 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship - Final
(2) Farmingdale State - 13, (5) Maritime - 10
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Second-seeded Farmingdale State College captured its fifth Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday against fifth-seeded SUNY Maritime College, as the Rams (11-8) won the title by the final score of 13-10.

With the victory, FSC has earned the Skyline's automatic bid to next week's 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The 46-team field will be announced via an online selection show on NCAA.com on Monday at 10:30 a.m., with first-round play slated to start next Saturday (May 11).

Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship. She followed up a 12-save effort in Thursday's semifinal round against St. Joseph's-Long Island with an 11-stop showing against the Privateers (10-6) today – including three point-blank saves in the second half.

FSC freshman Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y.) opened the scoring 3:21 in off a pass from classmate and former Farmingdale High School teammate Carly Livingston – who then followed suit with goals at the 9:05 and 8:35 marks to push the hosts ahead, 3-1. Maritime ran off three-straight goals to lead 4-3 with 2:00 left in the first period. Livingston completed her hat trick with 1:18 to go, before junior midfielder Molly Espey (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) bagged her 22nd goal of the season off a pass from senior mid Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) just under three seconds before the horn to push the Rams back ahead, 5-4.

After the Privateers leveled the game at 5-all 4:29 into the second quarter, Farmingdale State finished off the half on a 4-1 run to lead 9-6 at the break. Livingston started the spurt 15 seconds after Maritime's game-tying strike, before netting her fifth goal of the afternoon at the 9:18 mark. Sophomore Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Pk., N.Y.) netted her 19th of the campaign with 8:28 on the clock, before Codispoti's 42nd of the season came at the 2:16 mark.

With Maritime locking off Livingston for the majority of the second half, the first eight-plus minutes of the third period remained scoreless – a stretch that included a point-blank stop by Stamatelo on the Privateers' Gabrielle Nicolosi (4g, 2a) at the 8:10 mark. Livingston broke free for her sixth goal of the day at 6:55, before junior attacker Hayley Romeo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored off an assist from sophomore Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) with 4:20 remaining. Stamatelo made a free-position save on the doorstep from Maritime's Jenna Lesiewicz (3g, 3ct) at 2:22, which set the stage in FSC's next possession for the 15th goal of the campaign by sophomore midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.), which gave the Rams their biggest lead of the afternoon, 12-6, with 53 seconds to go in the third.

Including a man-down goal by Nicolosi at the end of the third, the Privateers scored four consecutive times to pull to within a 12-10 count with 2:49 remaining in the fourth quarter. Codispoti controlled the next draw, and Livingston netted her school-record 75th goal from the 8-meter mark with 1:35 left to give Farmingdale State a three-goal advantage.

Livingston led all players with seven goals and eight points in the championship final, while tying junior defender Sarah Fava (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for the team lead with two caused turnovers apiece. Farmingdale State – which fell 25-9 in the draw-control battle versus Maritime in the regular-season – turned the tides with a 15-10 advantage in the championship final. Espey led all players with a game-high eight controls, while Cassese added three. Sohm (2a) and Codispoti (g, a, 2dc) finished the afternoon with two points apiece.
