FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College softball team, ranked No. 7 in this week's NCAA Division III Region 3 rankings, earned a home Skyline Conference sweep Friday over visiting Mount Saint Mary College. The Rams (28-8, 15-1 Skyline) used a three-run second inning to defeat the Knights (15-21, 10-6) by a 4-1 margin in the opening game, before senior pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed a four-hit shutout to guide FSC to a 1-0 decision in the nightcap.

With FSC's win in the opening contest, fifth-year head coach Liz Pennino earned her 100th career victory at the institution.

Game 1

Junior right-hander Ava Shorr (No. Babylon, N.Y.) worked around a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning against the Knights by striking out the final two hitters of the inning. From there, FSC staked Shorr (12-5) to all the run support she would need with a three-run second inning. Sophomore designated player Samantha Stolfi (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Shorr hit back-to-back singles to lead off the frame, before freshman catcher Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) loaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch. Pinch-runner Alyssa Cowen (Jr.; Garden City So., N.Y.) scored the first run when she came home a walk to freshman Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.), before Shorr and Rahner scored on back-to-back sacrifice flies by freshman Madison Sturtz (E. Islip, N.Y.) and senior Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.), respectively.

Stolfi's two-out double to right-center field in the bottom of the fifth scored senior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) with Farmingdale State's fourth run of the game, before a RBI double just inside the third-base bag in the top of the seventh accounted for Mount Saint Mary's run.

Shorr scattered six hits and three walks while striking out four Knights in her 137-pitch effort.

Game 2

Farmingdale State won its 19th game in its last 20 outings behind Stanya's (15-3) four-hitter, as the righty issued just two walks while striking out nine MSMC batters.

While the Rams stranded runners in scoring position in the first and third innings, Stanya allowed just one Knights runner to reach second base over the first five innings. After she stranded a Mount runner at third base in the top of the sixth inning, Farmingdale State scratched across the only run of the contest in the bottom half of the frame. Freshman third baseman Bailey Hammock (Pt. Jervis, N.Y.) led off the home half of the inning with a triple to the right-center field wall, and came home one batter later on Capuano's RBI ground out to the middle of the infield. Stanya then tosses a 1-2-3 seventh inning, keeping the Rams at the top of the Skyline standings.

Hammock (SB) and Toro (2B) each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, with Capuano and sophomore Lindsay Cahill (Shoreham, N.Y.) collecting one hit apiece.

Pennino's FSC side will round out regular-season Skyline Conference play at home on Saturday, when they play host to a Senior Day twinbill at noon against Purchase College. If the Rams were to earn a sweep against the Panthers, it would clinch the No. 1 seed hosting rights for next week's (May 9-11) Skyline Conference Championship.
