Women's Lacrosse Bests St. Joseph's-L.I. in Skyline Semifinal

2024 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship - Semifinal
(2) Farmingdale State - 18, (3) St. Joseph's-L.I. - 13
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Freshman attacker Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) became Farmingdale State College's single-season record holder in goals and points Thursday afternoon, as her 12-point outing lifted the second-seeded Rams to an 18-13 victory in the 2024 Skyline Conference Championship semifinals over third-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island.

FSC (10-8) now advances to Saturday's 2 p.m. championship final, where it will play host to fifth-seeded SUNY Maritime College -- a 13-12 winner at top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Thursday's other semifinal.

Livingston's standout freshman campaign continued against the Golden Eagles (9-6), as she will enter the conference final with season totals of 68 goals, 44 assists and 112 points. Her points total broke the FSC single-season record previously held by Nicole Marzocca (106) in the 20-game 2014 season, while her goals mark tops the previous single-season-high of 63, set by Emily Williams during the 2010 slate.

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 5-1 advantage less than 10 minutes into the game. Livingston's free-position shot 1:10 in matched a goal by the Golden Eagles 17 seconds later, before freshman Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y.) started a run of four-straight goals by the host at the 12:54 mark. Livingston, sophomore Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior Hayley Romeo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored one goal apiece during the stretch, with Romeo's first tally of the quarter pushing the Rams in front by four at 5:56. Later in the frame, sophomore Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Pk., N.Y.) and Romeo scored 86 seconds apart in the final 3:12, before St. Joseph's notched a pair of goals of their own before the first-period buzzer to pull to within a 7-4 count.

Following a Golden Eagles strike 27 seconds into the second quarter, Livingston set up Cassese and Sohm within 1:32 of each other before burying her 65th goal of the season on an 8-meter shot to up the FSC edge to 10-5 with 6:34 to go in the half. St. Joseph's finished the half with three-consecutive goals, as part of a 5-1 run that saw the visitors close to within a 12-11 margin at the 3:08 mark of the third period.

FSC sophomore goalie Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) then made a pair of point-blank saves to keep her side in front, which set the stage for Livingston and Neu to score 65 seconds apart from one another and give the hosts a 14-11 lead after three quarters.

Neu completed her hat trick 1:49 into the final period, before the Golden Eagles pulled back to within two on a free-position effort at the 12:30 mark. From there, FSC scored four of the final five goals of the night to advance to the championship final. Sohm's 40th goal of the season came at 11:23, while Livingston and Neu scored within 23 seconds of each other to put the Rams ahead, 17-12, with 7:00 on the clock.

Neu finished with career-highs of four goals and five points on the left side of the FSC attack, while Sohm and Cassese each netted a hat trick. Junior defender Sarah Fava (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led her side with four caused turnovers in front of Stamatelo, who made six of her 12 saves in the third period of play.
