Dougherty Pitcher of the Year Honor Leads Six Baseball Players on All-Skyline Conference Team

COMPLETE SKYLINE CONFERENCE RELEASE
NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's 11 head baseball coaches have cast their votes on the 2024 edition of the all-conference team, and Farmingdale State College senior right-handed pitcher Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y.) was selected as Pitcher of the Year to lead a list of six Rams student-athletes who have been recognized for their play this spring.

Dougherty is joined on the all-conference first team by senior center fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.), while a quartet of FSC players took home second-team kudos: senior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.), sophomore second baseman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Pk., N.Y.), sophomore outfielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and senior utility Elian Pimentel (Huntington Station, N.Y.).

A two-time all-conference first team selection in as many seasons, Dougherty went 8-1 on the mound this spring with a Skyline-best 1.76 earned-run average that ranks No. 14 nationally in Division III. He struck out 65 batters over 62 innings of work, and had a hand in four shutouts (two complete-game efforts) for a FSC pitching rotation that is tied for the most in the country this season (8). Opponents hit just .221 against the righty, good for the fourth-best mark in the Skyline.

Pollock has now earned all-conference first-team praise for the second-straight campaign, as he led the Skyline with a .536 on-base percentage that ranks 18th in Division III. FSC's career home runs leader (23, including six in 2024) batted .382 with 12 extra-base hits, 28 walks, 37 runs scored, 26 RBI and a perfect 17-of-17 mark on stolen bases.

Lambert, a 2024 ABCA Division III Gold Glove candidate who saved countless runs with his fielding ability at first base across an error-free 279 chances, had a career year at the plate for a Farmingdale State team that ranked No. 10 nationally in batting average (.338). He was the eighth toughest hitter to strikeout in Division III (27.0), and posted career marks with a .382 batting average, 50 hits, a team-high-tying 17 extra-base hits (9 2B, 4 3B, 4 HR), 41 RBI (T-5th in Skyline) and a .603 slugging percentage.

Wasserman ranked second in the conference and led the team with a .406 batting average, while reaching base at a .497 clip. He led the Rams with 40 runs scored and 50 hits (tied, with Lambert), walked 18 times and swiped 12 bases from his leadoff position in the batting order. His nine doubles and three triples both ranked second on Farmingdale State.

Heyder ripped a team-best 13 doubles (T-3rd in Skyline) and walked 18 times in his FSC debut season. His 41 runs driven in tied Lambert for the team lead, as did his 17 extra-base hits. Heyder swiped eight bases on the season, in addition to ranking fourth on the Rams with his 29 runs scored.

Pimentel appeared in 28 games for FSC, settling in to the designated hitter slot in the second half of the year. He hit .346 with 18 hits, five doubles, 11 runs scored and 12 RBI's. Pimentel drew 10 walks and ranked third on the team with a .460 on-base percentage.
