FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | College Sports Communicators released its NCAA Division III Academic All-District Baseball Team recently, and Farmingdale State College junior outfielders
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.), along with senior right-handed pitcher
Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y.), all received recognition for their successes in the classroom and on the diamond.
Dougherty and Heyder have both been selected to move forward to the Academic All-America ballot, with the announcement of team selections set to be released on July 1.
The 2025 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Dougherty was named a Fourth Team All-American by D3baseball.com, after the Construction Management Engineering Technology major notched 79 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched to go with a 2.85 earned run average in his senior season. The two-time All-Region and Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year selection ranked 27th this spring in strikeouts per nine innings (11.85), 40th in WHIP (1.03) and 47th in strikeouts. Dougherty leaves FSC as its all-time leader with four shutouts and seven career complete games, while also ranking second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.33), third in strikeouts (186) and wins (17), and eighth in ERA (2.39).
Heyder was named First Team All-Region III by D3baseball.com and the ABCA, and finished the year ranked No. 14 in Division III with a .441 batting average to go with five home runs, 35 RBI and 33 runs scored. The Business Management major notched 18 extra-base hits, and finished the season with a 12-game hitting streak – including a 2-for-4 showing with a pair of solo home runs during FSC's stint at the Johns Hopkins regional of the NCAA tourney.
Kocovic, a Health Promotion and Wellness major, started in 33 of his 39 appearances during his debut Rams season. He batted .271 with 15 runs scored, 12 RBI and eight walks, and went 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles at the NCAA regional.
Head coach
Keith Osik's Farmingdale State team went 26-16 this spring, including a 14-6 mark in Skyline play and its record-ninth conference title and NCAA Division III Championship appearance.
