FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State baseball team fell in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Merchant Marine on Sunday. FSC fell 1-0 in the first game, before dropping the second by a score of 8-6.
Game 1
In a pitcher's duel in game one, Rams' (9-9, 3-3 Skyline) senior
Roman Dorosh (Holbrook, N.Y.) and reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year Tyler Reistetter allowed just five hits through the first four innings of play as the game remained scoreless.
The Mariners (12-8, 4-0 Skyline) tallied the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth after a lead off double, sacrifice bunt and fielder's choice ground out put the ahead.
The Rams threatened in the top of the sixth as they loaded the bases with two outs, but Restetter struck out the next batter to escape the jam.
Restetter (W, 5-2, 7.0 IP, 10 SO) walked a batter in the seventh but struck out the side to earn the complete game victory.
Dorosh (L, 0-2) took the loss after only allowing three hits and one run in five innings on the mound.
Senior
Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) finished 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate. He also tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Game 2
In game two, the Rams trailed 1-0 in the third before scoring one run in the fourth and fifth innings to go in front, 2-1. Senior first baseman
Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) singled, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1. In the fifth, sophomore right fielder
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) drove in sophomore second baseman
Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) to take the lead.
Merchant Marine got their offense going in the bottom of the sixth, putting up six runs with two outs, to go ahead, 7-2.
Following a scoreless seventh inning, Farmingdale State used a pair of two-run singles by junior catcher
Matthew Flood (Islip, N.Y.) and Heyder to cut their deficit to just one at 7-6.
Trailing 8-6 in the ninth, Lambert reached base to open the inning, but USMMA's Caden Pierce (Sv, 4) retired the next three batters to clinch the victory.
Heyder led the Rams with two hits and three RBI's in the loss.
The FSC baseball team next travels to Lehman College for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 10th at 3:00 p.m.
