FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Vincent on Friday afternoon. The Rams took game one by a 7-1 score before narrowly falling 8-7 in the second game. FSC now sits at 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline, while the Dolphins are 6-10, 3-1.

Game 1

In the seven-inning game, Farmingdale State opened with back-to-back walks by sophomore second baseman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and senior left fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.). Sophomore right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior designated hitter Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, respectively, to give the Rams an early 2-0 advantage.

FSC extended the lead in the third after Wasserman singled, stole second and scored on another RBI single by Heyder. After a McGuggart single moved Heyder to third, senior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) tallied a sacrifice fly to go up, 4-0.

In the fourth, a one-out single by junior shortstop Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) and a triple by Wasserman gave Farmingdale State a commanding 5-0 advantage.

Leading 5-1 in the seventh, the Rams scored a pair on run-scoring walks to take a six-run edge.

Senior Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y. - W, 4-1, 7.0 IP, 6 SO, 4 H, 0 ER) allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning, but recorded a strikeout and a double play to close the game and secure his second straight complete game. He has not allowed an earned run since his first appearance of the season.

Heyder finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Wasserman had two hits, two runs scored, a triple, one walk and one run batted in, while McGuggart was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Game 2

In the nine-inning game, Farmingdale State scored in the top of the first after Pollock singled, stole second and scored on a single by McGuggart.

Mount Saint Vincent tied the game in the second inning, but the Rams regained the lead in the third with an RBI double by Pollock and an RBI triple by Lambert to go ahead, 3-1.

The Dolphins answered with six runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth to jump in front, 8-3.

The Rams trailed 8-4 heading to the ninth inning and used an Elian Pimentel (Huntington Station, N.Y.) double, Wasserman single and Pollock 3-run home run to quickly cut their deficit to just one at 8-7.

FSC put a runner on with two outs, but were unable to score as they fell, 8-7.

Pollock went 4-for-5 with the home run, double, four RBI's and three runs scored, while Lambert was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, triple, walk and one run batted in. Pollock was a triple shy and Lambert was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Wasserman produced two hits, a walk and three runs scored in the loss.

Farmingdale State continues Skyline action when they travel to Merchant Marine for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 7th at noon.
