NEWBURGH, N.Y. |Â The Farmingdale State baseball team swept a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary College on Monday. The Rams tallied a 12-0 game one win behind a complete game shutout by senior pitcher
Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y.), before taking a 25-2 run-rule victory in the second game. With the wins, FSC improved to 14-9 overall and 7-3 in the Skyline.
Game 1
Dougherty (W, 5-1) recorded his second shutout in his last three outings, striking out a season-high nine and allowing just four hits. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 35 innings pitched and lowered his ERA to 0.97, a mark that ranks fifth in all of Division III.
The FSC offense was held scoreless until they rattled off seven runs in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman catcher
Sean Maldonado (Glen Head, N.Y.) hit an RBI double and junior shortstop
Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) tallied an RBI single to give FSC a 2-0 lead. Senior third baseman
Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) produced a two-run single and both senior first baseman
Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) and sophomore
Greg Friedman (Wading River, N.Y.) followed with run-scoring singles to go up, 6-0. Lambert then stole home to give Farmingdale State the 7-0 lead.
Farmingdale State loaded the bases in the sixth and used a DiRocco walk and a two-run single by Lambert to take a commanding 10-0 advantage.
The Rams added two unearned runs in the seventh as they went on for the 12-0 win.
DiRocco and Lambert each finished with three runs batted, while McGuggart and sophomore right fielder
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) had two hits and one run batted in apiece. Sophomore second baseman
Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) added two hits and two runs scored.Â
Game 2
In game two, Farmingdale State put up nine runs in the second inning and 13 in the third en route to the 25-2 win.
Senior pitcher
Roman Dorosh (Holbrook, N.Y. - W, 1-2) earned his first win of the season after throwing five innings and striking out eight batters.
FSC tallied 24 hits and had five different Rams produce 3 or more hits. Wasserman went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, two RBI's and three runs scored, while DiRocco registered three hits, four RBI's and two runs. Heyder tallied three hits, a walk, three runs batted in and four runs scored and both Lambert and junior catcher
Justin Porrino (Locust Valley, N.Y.) had three hits and two RBI's apiece. Senior
Elian Pimentel (Huntington Station, N.Y.) chipped in with a hit and four runs batted in as the designated hitter.
The FSC baseball team will next travel to Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m.
