FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 on the season Friday afternoon, as the Rams defeated visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 19-4.

With the score tied 1-1, the host Rams scored the next seven goals to open up an 8-1 advantage by halftime. Five different FSC players scored in the opening period against the Warriors (2-3), including consecutive goals 11 seconds apart by senior Gerardo Maldonado (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) and freshman Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale State the lead for good at 3-1 with 9:39 left.

After senior Tanner Longo (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and sophomore Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) each netted goals before the end of the first quarter, Maldonado completed his hat trick 7:11 before halftime to push the advantage to 7-1. Junior mid Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) scored the first of his career-high four goals on the afternoon 16 seconds before the break to give FSC a seven-goal cushion.

Kollar scored twice in a third quarter that saw FSC outscore the visitors by a 4-3 margin, with the Rams carrying a 12-4 lead into the final period of action. From there, the Rams scored seven unanswered goals in the fourth to close out the contest. Giovinco completed his hat trick with goals at the 13:29 and 11:19 marks, while senior Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) did the same with his tallies at the 11:26 and 3:31 marks -- with the latter coming with Farmingdale State playing a man down.

FSC held sizable advantages on the afternoon in shots (70-25), ground balls (55-35) and face-offs won (19-8), while forcing 24 turnovers and a 14-for-26 clear rate by the Warriors. Senior attacker Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) led all players with six points on a goal and career-high five assists, with Giovinco (2a) adding five points, seven ground balls and a game-best three caused turnovers on the ride. Kolano and Maldonado each finished with three goals and an assist, while Longo scored twice. Senior face-off specialist Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) went 19-of-26 at the "x" with 11 ground balls, while defensemen Gino Luchetti (Sr.; Farmingville, N.Y.) and Sean Lawson (Fr.; Mattituck, N.Y.) each swiped two turnovers. Junior goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made nine saves in his nearly 49 minutes of work to earn the victory in the Rams' cage.

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's Rams are back in action Monday (March 11), when they travel to Georgetown, Texas, for a 1 p.m. face-off at Southwestern University.
