Men's Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats Southwestern (Texas); Stock Nets 100th Career Goal

Farmingdale State 17, Southwestern (Texas) 14
GEORGETOWN, Texas | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team picked up its fourth-consecutive victory on Monday, holding off a late charge by host Southwestern University to capture a 17-14 win.

In the win, Rams (5-1) senior attackman Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) tied a career-high with five goals, including his 100th career tally when he found the back of the net just 4:53 into play as part of a game-opening 5-0 run by the visitors. He is just the fifth Farmingdale State player to reach the 100-goal plateau in the team's NCAA era (list below). In adding three assists on the day, Stock now has 165 career points (103g, 62a) in his four-year Rams career, and sits fourth on the program's leaderboard in that category.

After falling behind by five goals, Southwestern (0-6) scored three of the next four in the game to close to within a 6-3 score. From there, FSC senior John Carnevale (E. Meadow, N.Y.) beat the first-quarter horn with his first goal of the season, giving the visitors a 7-3 lead after 15 minutes of play.

The Pirates registered the first two goals of the second frame to pull within two, before three scores by a trio of Farmingdale State players sent the green and white into halftime with a 10-5 advantage. Junior Michael Cassano (Plainview, N.Y.) bagged his only goal of the day 5:43 before the interval, before classmate Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) added a man-up tally with 3:27 left, and Stock completed his hat trick with 56 ticks on the clock.

Stock, sophomore Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) and Kollar each ripped the netting inside the first seven minutes of the second half to extend the FSC lead to eight. From there, Southwestern scored six of the last seven goals of the third period, closing its deficit to 14-11 entering the fourth quarter.

The Rams pushed their edge to 16-11 behind the second goals of the day from seniors Gerardo Maldonado (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) just 84 seconds into the resumption of action, and Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) with 10:11 remaining. The Pirates registered a 3-0 run to pull to with a 16-14 margin with 6:02 to go, before Stock fed Maldonado for a goal with 2:56 showing on the clock, completing Maldonado's second-straight hat trick and icing the contest for the visitors.

Kolano and Murtha each finished the day with two goals and one assist, with freshman Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) adding two points (g, a) to the victorious cause. Freshman defender Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) scooped four ground balls and collected a game-high four caused turnovers in front of junior goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.), who made 13 saves on the day.

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's Rams are back in action at home on Sunday (March 17), when they play host to Plattsburgh State in a noon face-off.
