UNION, N.J. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team fell Monday night in non-conference play, as it lost a 17-10 decision to host Kean University.

Kean (5-4) scored the first seven goals of the game, before FSC (3-6) responded with three of the last four scores of the first period to cut its deficit to 8-3. Sophomore Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) lifted the lid on the Rams' scoring off a pass from freshman Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y.) with 4:47 on the clock, with sophomore Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) tallying in a player-advantage situation 90 seconds later off an assist by freshman Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Following a goal by the Cougars, Livingston set up sophomore Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Pk., N.Y.) for the Rams' third goal of the day just before the first-period horn.

After the Cougars outscored FSC 4-1 in the second quarter to hold a 12-4 halftime advantage, the visitors received third-period goals from senior Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.), Sohm and Livingston to cut the Kean lead to 13-7 with 15 minutes remaining.

Coppola completed her first-career hat trick with goals at the 8:23 and 6:39 marks of the fourth quarter, while Cassese's lone goal of the night came 4:30 before the final horn.

Like Coppola, who led Farmingdale State with two caused turnovers in the midfield, Sohm posted a three-goal output for the Rams. Livingston's three-assist night was her second of the season, while Cassese controlled four draws at the midfield circle.

Head coach Erin Calkins's FSC side opens up Skyline Conference play on Saturday, when it plays host to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at noon.
