Women's Lacrosse Turned Aside by Montclair State

Montclair State 15, Farmingdale State 8
MONTCLAIR, N.J. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, as the Rams fell to host Montclair State University, 15-8.

The host Red Hawks (3-2) netted the first 10 goals of the game, before FSC (3-5) freshman attacker Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) got her side on the board off a pass from classmate Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y.) 4:38 before the end of the first half.

Livingston's second goal of the night came 2:46 after the break as she converted a feed from sophomore Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.), before junior Hayley Romeo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) netted her second goal of the season 3:17 later. After Montclair State countered with a pair of scores, Farmingdale State registered five-straight goals over the final 8:22 of the game. Livingston's hat trick was completed at the 7:05 mark, while Coppola scored a pair of goals within a two-minute span. After assisting on Coppola's second goal with 6:24 on the clock, sophomore Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) dented the net on her 12th goal of the year with 5:29 to play. Cassese found the scoresheet with under one minute to play to round out the Rams' scoring.

Junior Sarah Fava (Lynbrook, N.Y.) continued her strong defensive play with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, while freshman Markella Moutafis (Bellmore, N.Y.) added three takeaways. Cassese set a career-high by controlling five draws in the midfield, while senior goalie Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) made four second-half saves in the FSC cage.

Head coach Erik Calkins will next lead the Rams into road action on Saturday (March 23), when they travel to Union, N.J., for a 1 p.m. opening draw at Kean University.
