Men's Lacrosse Runs Past New Paltz Behind Eight-Goal First Period

Farmingdale State 18, New Paltz 9
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team outscored SUNY New Paltz by an 8-1 margin in the first period Wednesday afternoon, as the Rams cruised to an 18-9 victory over the host Hawks.

FSC (2-1) senior attackman Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) completed a hat trick just 7:39 into play on his way to a career-high-tying five goals, while junior Michael Cassano (Plainview, N.Y.) scored twice during the visitors' eight-goal onslaught in the opening period.

The Hawks (0-2) scored twice in the first five minutes of the second quarter, FSC found the back of the net three more times on its way to an 11-3 halftime advantage. Sophomore Anthony Martino (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) completed his hat trick with tallies at the 7:07 and 5:38 marks, before Cassano's third goal on the day came 1:02 before the break.

Farmingdale State outscored New Paltz by a 6-3 edge in the third period, including a pair of goals by both Stock and junior midfielder Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.), on its way to the nine-goal victory.

Stock finished with six points on the day, while Martino (2a) and Cassano (assist) ended with five and four points, respectively. Kollar and freshman Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) both registered two goals and one assist for the Rams, who maintained most of the possession on the afternoon behind a 23-of-31 effort at the face-off "x" to go with 13 ground balls by senior Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). FSC outshot the hosts by a 67-28 count on the afternoon, with Kollar, senior Jonathan Flores (W. Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman defender Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) forcing two Hawks turnovers each on defense. Junior goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) earned the win in net with seven saves against four goals allowed over his 35:35 of action.

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's Rams are next on the road Saturday (March 2), when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y., for a start at Hartwick College.
