Women's Lacrosse Falls to Vassar on the Road

Vassar 14, Farmingdale State 6
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action Tuesday night by a 14-6 final to host Vassar College.

With the Rams (0-2) down 1-0 early, senior Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scored with 4:32 remaining in the first period, before assisting 53 seconds later on a tally by sophomore Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) to push the visitors ahead, 2-1.

After the Brewers (1-1) went back ahead by a 4-2 count with three-straight goals to end the opening quarter, Diamond registered a player-up goal 4:08 into the second off a feed from freshman Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to bring FSC back to within one. Vassar netted the final two goals of the half as part of a 6-0 run, and led by a 10-3 margin late in the third period.

The Livingston-to-Diamond connection linked up once again with 1:27 left in the third frame, with Diamond feeding junior Molly Espey (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) three minutes into the fourth quarter to cut the Rams' deficit to 11-5. The Brewers scored the next three goals of the contest, before Livingston's fourth goal of the season with 2:11 remaining accounted for the final score.

Diamond's hat trick and two assists led all players, as did her five draw controls on the midfield circle. Livingston finished with a three-point evening, while senior Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) controlled four draws. Senior Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) split halves in the Farmingdale State net, collecting four and five saves, respectively.

Next up for head coach Erin Calkins's Rams is Saturday's home opener, when they welcome Western Connecticut State University for a noon opening draw.
