Manhattanville - 69, Farmingdale State - 58
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC women's basketball team fell to first-place Manhattanville, 69-58, in Skyline action on Saturday afternoon. Farmingdale State dropped to 9-13 overall and 7-10 in the conference, while the Valiants improved to 19-3, 16-1.
The game was knotted at 6-6 midway through the first quarter before Manhattanville went on a 13-1 run to go in front, 19-7.Â
The Rams trailed 22-9 before junior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to cut it to ten. After a free-throw by MVL, Pohalski tallied four straight points to make it a seven-point game at 23-16.
FSC was still down seven, 30-23, before a 7-3 run, including a pair of 3's by senior forward
Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.), made it 33-30.Â
Manhattanville closed the half with a made jumper as they took a 35-30 lead into the break.
Over the first 7:21 of the third quarter, the Valiants opened up a 16-point advantage at 51-35.
Farmingdale State responded with 10 unanswered points to close the quarter as the Valiants held a 51-45 advantage at the end of three.
Pohalski opened the fourth with a 3-pointer to quickly close within three points, but a 7-0 run allowed Manhattanville to regain a 10-point lead at 58-48.
The Valiants maintained at least a 10-point lead in the final five minutes as they went on for the 69-58 victory.
Pohalski finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists, while Mendoza had 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots. Senior guard

Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) ended with 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Jamison Agostino registered 24 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead the Valiants.
