PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon and earned a 64-57 Skyline Conference victory. Trailing 55-54 with 1:23 left on the clock, senior guard
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) drained a key 3-pointer to put the Rams ahead. This marked FSC's first win over the Valiants since 2021 and their first road win in the series since 2007.
Farmingdale State improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the victory. Manhattanville dropped to 6-2 and 4-2 in the Skyline.
The Rams fell behind 9-2 in the opening minutes but responded with seven consecutive points by senior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) to tie the score at 9-9.
The Valiants led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 27-21 at the halftime break.
After Manhattanville pushed their lead to seven, 31-24, early in the third, FSC used layups by
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), Pohalski and
Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) to quickly make it a one-point game at 31-30.
Farmingdale State was still down one, 41-40, to start the fourth quarter and opened with a layup by sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) to jump in front, 42-41.
The fourth quarter saw five lead changes and four ties as the game was knotted at 53-53 with 2:25 remaining.Â
After Wooden hit a free-throw, Manhattanville's Kathleen O'Mara answered with a layup to regain the lead.
On the next possession, FSC sophomore
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) found Greenwald open in the corner for the clutch 3-pointer, putting Farmingdale State in front, 57-55, with 1:23 left.
The Valiants missed a 3-pointer on their next possession, and Greenwald quickly set up Simmons for a driving layup to extend the lead to 59-55 with less than a minute to go.
FSC sealed the win with five free-throws down the stretch as they went on for the 64-57 Skyline Conference victory.
Pohalski led all scorers with 19 points, while Wooden finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Walbroehl scored six points and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds, including 13 defensive boards, and Simmons registered 10 points, four rebounds and two assists off the bench. Greenwald produced five points, three rebounds and three assists in the victory.
The Rams will next return to action on Saturday, January 4th when they play host to Brooklyn College at noon.
