FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team hosted the defending Skyline Conference champions, Mount Saint Vincent, on Tuesday evening and earned a 61-55 victory. FSC improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Dolphins dropped to 2-3, 1-2.

The game was tied 12-12 early in the second quarter before the Rams took a five-point lead, sparked by a layup from sophomore forward Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) and 3-pointer from freshman guard Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.).

Mount Saint Vincent responded with a pair of layups, but another 3-pointer from Amenta put FSC in front, 20-16, with four minutes left in the half.

Farmingdale State led by two, 21-19, before sophomore guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer. Mount Saint Vincent closed with a layup on the other end as the Rams led 24-21 at the break. Senior forward Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) led FSC with seven first-half points.

Farmingdale State opened the third quarter with a layup by Wooden and three points from senior guard Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.), extending their advantage to 29-21.

Leading 32-27, Simmons hit back-to-back 3's to give the Rams an 11-point edge. Following a Dolphins jumper, a 3-pointer by senior guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) put the Rams in front, 41-30.

Farmingdale State held a 45-36 advantage before MSV closed the third with a 3 to cut their deficit to six.

The Dolphins knotted the score at 48-48 just over three minutes into the fourth quarter, and the game remained tied until 5:17 remaining when Walbroehl grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a put-back layup to give FSC the lead.

The Rams still led by two, 52-50, with two minutes to play and extended their advantage to five with a layup from Pohalski and a free-throw by Simmons.

With 39 seconds remaining, Mount Saint Vincent scored to make it 55-52. After a pair of free-throws put Farmingdale State ahead, 57-52, the Dolphins were fouled with 16 seconds left. They hit one free-throw but missed the second as Walbroehl pulled down the rebound, was fouled and hit both to give FSC a six-point lead, 59-53. The Dolphins tallied a layup in the closing seconds as Farmingdale State went on for the 61-55 Skyline Conference victory.

The Rams had four players score double-digits as Greenwald led the way with 13 points, to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
