PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team won its third-straight Skyline Conference game on Wednesday night, defeating Purchase College on the road by the score of 54-35.
Play was back-and-forth in the opening quarter, with a late 5-1 run by FSC (5-3, 3-1 Skyline) in the final three minutes of action giving the visitors a 10-6 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Rams' advantage quickly jumped to double digits after they scored the first seven points of the second quarter to go up 17-6 with 6:10 on the clock. There were just three combined baskets the rest of the quarter, with a lay-in at the buzzer by senior
Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) giving Farmingdale State a 19-11 halftime edge.
Following an even 14-14 score in the third period, the Panthers (1-7, 0-3) cut their deficit down to just six points, 37-31, at the 7:40 mark. From there, Farmingdale State closed out the game on a 15-4 run to capture the win.
Senior guard
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) knocked down five 3-point field goals en route to scoring a game-high 17 points, and also tied for the game-high with seven rebounds. Sophomore
Mia Simmons (Jamaica, N.Y.) added 12 points along with a game-best four assists, while sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points. Conte finished with six points and seven boards.
FSC will next travel to Kings Point, N.Y., for a noontime Skyline contest on Saturday, December 7, at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
