Albertus Magnus - 75, Farmingdale State - 69
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC women's basketball hosted Albertus Magnus for a non-conference game on Saturday and fell, 75-69. The Rams knotted the game at 67-67 with less than three minutes to play before the Falcons closed the game on a 7-2 run en route to the victory.
Leading 3-2 early in the first quarter, the Rams (2-2) used back-to-back 3-pointers by sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) and senior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) to jump in front by seven.
FSC took a 14-8 advantage into the second and went on a 14-4 run over the first five minutes as they went ahead 28-12.
Trailing 30-14 with 2:56 on the clock, the Falcons (1-1) closed the half on an 8-2 spurt as they trailed the Rams, 32-22, at the break. Pohalski led all scorers with 11 first-half points, to go with seven rebounds.
After Albertus registered the opening bucket of the third quarter, 3-pointers by freshman guard
Emily Tsiforas (Manhassett Hills, N.Y.) and sophomore guard
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) gave FSC a 38-24 advantage.
The Falcons were down 45-36Â and used a pull-up jumper and three free-throws to close the gap to just four, 45-41. Albertus Magnus later tied the score at 49-49 after hitting a 3-pointer in the final minute of the third.
The fourth quarter saw four ties and five lead changes as the teams traded baskets throughout.
With 3:14 remaining, Farmingdale State trailed 67-63 and knotted the game on a driving layup by senior guard
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) and a jumper from freshman guard
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.).
On the next possession, a foul sent Falcons' guard Diamond White to the line and she knocked down both to regain the lead. After an FSC turnover, a fast break layup gave Albertus a four-point edge at 71-67.
FSC closed the gap with a pair of Greenwald free-throws with 1:51 showing on the clock. The Rams had an opportunity to tie the game with 18 seconds left, but a block by Albertus Magnus followed by two free-throws allowed them to make it a two possession game, 73-69. The Falcons knocked down two more foul shots in the final seconds as they earned the 75-69 victory.
Pohalski registered a career-high 20 points, including five 3-pointers, along with nine rebounds and three steals. Wooden recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Greenwald finished with 10 points, five rebounds and a career-best seven assists. Amenta went 8-for-8 at the foul line and produced 12 points off the bench and Simmons added six points in the loss.
FSC will next open their Skyline Conference schedule when they host Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m.
