Hunter - 68, Farmingdale State - 48
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted non-conference opponent Hunter College on Wednesday evening and fell by a score of 68-48. The Hawks (1-0) led by three at the break and outscored the Rams, 36-19, in the second half en route to the victory.
After each team opened the game with a basket, two free throws by Rams' sophomore forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) gave FSC an early 7-2 advantage.
Hunter quickly countered with eight unanswered points to jump in front, 10-7.
The Rams closed the quarter on a 9-2 run, including a pair of three-point plays by senior guard
Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.), as they took a 16-12 advantage into the second.
The Hawks trailed 24-23 with 4:39 left to play in the half, before six consecutive points put them in front, 29-24.
With less than a minute on the clock, FSC freshman guard
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) knotted the score at 29-29 after knocking down a 3 and immediately stealing the inbound pass and tallying a layup.
Hunter closed with a 3-pointer on the other end as they took a 32-29 lead into the halftime break.
The Hawks came out quick to start the second half, producing 9 of the first 11 points to go ahead by 10, 41-31.
Hunter then extended their lead to 54-40 at the end of the third and held the Rams to just eight points in the fourth quarter as they went on for the 68-48 non-conference win.
Greenwald led Farmingdale State with a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. Amenta finished with 10 points, three rebounds, one block and one steal, while both Simmons and senior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) registered eight points apiece.
Hunter was led by Alexa Charles, who tallied 34 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.
Farmingdale State will next play host to Albertus Magnus for a non-conference game on Saturday, November 16th at noon.
