Women's Basketball Moves to 2-0 With Victory at Baruch

Farmingdale State 72, Baruch 67
NEW YORK | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season Monday night, as the Rams went on the road and captured a 72-67 decision at Baruch College.

FSC trailed by a 31-28 score at halftime against the Bearcats (0-1), before outscoring the hosts in the third period by a 20-13 margin to go in front by four with one quarter left. The Rams scored the first five points of the quarter, including a conventional 3-point play by sophomore forward Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) to go in front 33-31 just 1:35 in. Baruch leveled the score on a pair of occasions, before back-to-back layups by Farmingdale State sophomore Mia Simmons (Jamaica, N.Y.) and senior Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) started an 11-3 run that saw the visitors jump ahead 48-40 with less than two minutes to go.

The Bearcats registered the final four points of the third period, and tacked on five more to start the final quarter to take their final lead of the night, 49-48, at the 8:05 mark. Pohalski and senior Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) countered with layups at 7:25 and 6:56, respectively, to push FSC ahead for good at 52-49. Inside the final six minutes of the contest, freshman Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) subbed onto the floor and proceeded to knock down back-to-back 3-point field goals to help ice the game for the Rams.

Wooden picked up a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the victory, while senior guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied 13 points, 10 boards and five assists. Amenta made all five of her shots from the floor en route to 13 points during her 15-minute stint, with Pohalski adding 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Walbroehl's 12 rebounds set a career-high and led all players, helping FSC to lead Baruch with a 43-39 edge on the glass.

Farmingdale State is back in action at home on Wednesday (Nov. 13), when it plays host to Hunter College at 5:30 p.m.
