11-Goal First Half Leads Rams Past Hartwick

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team scored 11 goals in the first half of today's non-conference game versus Hartwick to lead them to a 13-5 victory. 

After the Hawks (0-1) registered the opening goal, the Rams (2-1) rattled off 11 consecutive scores.

Senior attack Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) set up classmate Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) for the tying goal before scoring one of his own to give FSC the lead.

Junior attacker Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) and midfielder Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) tallied unassisted goals to close the quarter as Farmingdale State held a 4-1 advantage heading into the second.

After Stock set up Wandle for a goal, sophomore midfielder Steven DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) netted a man-up score.

With 6:50 on the clock, the Rams scored five straight goals in only 5:17 as they took a commanding 11-1 lead.

FSC was up 11-2 at the break before neither team scored in the third quarter. 

The Hawks managed three man-up scores in the fourth but Farmingdale State went on for the 13-5 victory.

Varello had three goals and one assist and Stock finished with two goals and two assists for four points apiece. Wandle recorded two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.) produced a pair of goals, three caused turnovers and four ground balls. DiCarlo (1g, 1a), junior Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y. - 1g, 1a) and Kolano (2g) added two points each in the win.

Senior Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) led the defense with five caused turnovers and a career-best eight ground balls. Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied two CT's and five ground balls and Christian Lembo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers and three GB's.

Sophomore goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) (W, 2-1) picked up the win as he stopped 10-of-15 shots faced.

FSC will next host non-conference opponent Anna Maria on Tuesday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m.
