SCHENECTADY, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Union (N.Y.) College, 81-65, on Thursday evening behind a 25 point, 10 rebound and five assist performance from senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.). FSC improved to 10-1 to begin the 2023-24 season. This marks the best start through the first 11 games of a season in program history. The record previously came in 2008-09, when the team started 9-2.
The Rams trailed 13-12 just seven minutes in and used a 12-0 run put them ahead. Senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) made a jumper before Davis made back-to-back 3-pointers. Senior guard
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) followed with a basket and Davis closed the run with a jump shot in the paint.
Farmingdale State held a 44-37 advantage at the break and opened the second half with a layup by senior forward
Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) to go up by nine.
With 9:44 remaining and FSC leading 63-52, Davis registered a pair of jumpers to put FSC in front by 15.
After a Union basket, Hurowitz knocked down a 3 to give the Rams a 16-point advantage at 70-54 with 6:26 remaining.
Farmingdale State maintained at least an 11-point edge down the stretch as they earned the 81-65 non-conference win.
Davis shot 10-for-17 from the field, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc, to match his career-best of 25 points. He also set a new career-high with his 10 rebounds. Powell recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Hurowitz produced 13 points and five rebounds. Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 10 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and six assists.
As a team, Farmingdale State shot 13-for-24 from 3-point range and held a 54-35 rebounding margin.
The Rams will return to action in 2024 when they play host to Skyline Conference opponent Merchant Marine on Wednesday, January 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
