FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's basketball team, who received a vote in this week's
D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, earned a 90-69 victory Wednesday night in Skyline Conference play against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.Â
FSC (11-1, 3-0 Skyline) controlled play from the tip as they opened up a 35-8 advantage just over 10 minutes in. They led 6-2 and rattled off nine consecutive points to go up, 15-2, with 15:07 on the clock. After a layup by USMMA (4-8, 1-3 Skyline), a 12-0 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from freshman forward
Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.), gave Farmingdale State a 27-4 lead. The Rams followed with an 11-4 spurt to take the 35-8 edge.
In the final 9:16 of the half, each team recorded 12 points as FSC took a 47-20 lead into the break. The Rams shot 58.8% (20-34) from the field in the first 20 minutes.
FSC senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) tallied 11 first half points and opened the second with a layup to give Farmingdale State a 29-point advantage.
Merchant Marine cut their deficit to 21, 53-32, with 17 minutes on the clock behind a pair of 3-pointers, but the Rams quickly responded with eight straight points to regain a 29-point lead.
FSC held a 69-48 advantage with 10 minutes to play and used a Buckley 3 and a dunk by junior forward
James Cosgrove (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to take a 74-48 edge.
Farmingdale State led by as many as 31 in the final 8:32 of the game as they went on for the 90-69 Skyline Conference victory.
Hurowitz led the way offensively for FSC with 21 points, to go along with seven rebounds and a season-high three steals. Senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) produced 17 points in 22 minutes, while freshman forward
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Cosgrove recorded a career-best 10 points and five blocked shots and senior guard
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied nine points and seven assists. He now has 309 career assists and is just 10 away from the program record. Buckley added six points, six rebounds and three steals, while sophomore guard
Robbie Siechen (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied three points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Drew Zalescik recorded a game-high 24 points for Merchant Marine.
