Second-Half Shooting Leads Ramapo Past Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell to Ramapo College, 89-84, in a non-conference home game on Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners shot 17-for-24 from the field in the second half, scoring 51 points in the final 20 minutes, as they picked up the win.

Ramapo (3-1) controlled play early, holding a 30-18 advantage with just 6:15 to play in the first half.

The Rams (4-1) cut their deficit to seven after senior forward Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) made three free-throws before assisting on a layup by senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.)

After a basket by the Roadrunners, Hurowitz and sophomore forward Macai John (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back layups to close within five at 32-27.

FSC trailed by three, 36-33, with 2:08 on the clock and closed the half on an 11-2 run, including 3-pointers by Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) and Hurowitz, to take a 44-38 lead.

Hurowitz led all scorers with 16 first-half points.

The Roadrunners trailed by four, 61-57, with 10 minutes remaining and used a 7-0 run, capped off by a 3 from senior guard Peter Gorman, to jump in front, 64-61. 

Farmingdale State was still down by three, 68-65, before Santos hit a 3-pointer and Davis made a jumper to regain the lead.

Ramapo answered with a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to open up an eight-point advantage, 80-72, with 2:52 on the clock.

The Rams cut their deficit to five down the stretch, but were unable to mount the comeback as they fell, 89-84.

Hurowitz finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Davis had 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Powell tallied 10 points, Santos recorded nine points, and both Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) and Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) produced six points apiece.

Gorman registered 31 points on 10-for-16 shooting, including 8-for-12 from behind the arc.

FSC will next play host to non-conference opponent Wesleyan on Saturday, November 25th at 2:00 p.m.
