Wooden Pours in 30 Points to Lead FSC Past Hunter

Farmingdale State - 80, Hunter - 65
NEW YORK, N.Y. | Farmingdale State freshman forward Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) recorded 30 points, to go along with 19 rebounds, on Friday evening as she led the women's basketball team to an 80-65 victory over Hunter College. The Rams won the opening game of the Hawks Tip-Off Tournament and improved to 2-1 on the season.

FSC jumped out to a quick 9-0 advantage early in the first quarter behind two baskets from Wooden, a fastbreak jumper by senior guard Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.), and a 3-pointer by junior guard Isabella Greenwald (West Islip, N.Y.).

Hunter trailed 20-15 heading into the second quarter and tallied a layup to cut their deficit to just three. Sophomore guard Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) responded with four points in a 6-0 run to regain a nine-point edge at 26-17.

Following a layup by the Hawks, Wooden recorded a three-point play before Kantzian made a jump shot to give Farmingdale State a 12-point lead, 31-19, with 3:50 remaining in the first half.

Farmingdale State took a 39-26 advantage into the break and outscored Hunter by one, 23-22, in the third quarter as they led 62-48 heading into the final 10 minutes.

FSC started the fourth with back-to-back layups by Wooden and Kantzian to take a commanding 18-point advantage.

The Rams maintained at least 15-point lead down the stretch as they cruised to the 80-65 victory.

Wooden shot 12-for-22 from the field en route to her career-best 30-point, 19-rebound performance. She tallied 12 offensive rebounds and added two assists and two steals in the win.

Pohalski was 7-for-13 from the field and recorded 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Senior forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) picked up 12 points off the bench in only 14 minutes played, while Kantzian had 10 points. Junior guard Erin Conte (Melville, N.Y.) produced eight points and five assists and Greenwald registered five points and seven rebounds.

The Rams will head back to Hunter College and play Widener University tomorrow, Saturday, November 18th at 3:00 p.m. in their final game of the Tip-Off Tournament.
