FSC Cruises Past Baruch

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team cruised to a pair of non-conference victories over Baruch this afternoon. The Rams won the first game 20-1, before earning the 5-0 game two decision.

FSC improved to 13-11 on the season, while Baruch dropped to 9-7.

Farmingdale State scored 10 runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning of game one to take a 19-1 lead. In the second, the first seven batters of the inning reached base safely. Singles by senior first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Kimberly Basile (Levittown, N.Y.) led off the inning for FSC. Sophomore center fielder Aleysha Midgett (Huntington, N.Y.) followed with a double to left center to score Michalowski and tally the first run of the game for the Rams.

After a Baruch error led to another Farmingdale run, sophomore right fielder Alexa Luna (Martin County, Fla.) hit a bases-clearing triple to center field to increase the advantage to 5-1. Later in the inning, Michalowski hit a two-run double down the left field line to bring the lead to six, 7-1. Midgett followed a Basile walk with her second double of the inning to score Michalowski and give FSC the 8-1 advantage.

In the third inning, leading 15-1, Rams sophomore third baseman Sierra Cardenales (Patchougue, N.Y.) hit a grand slam to left field to bring the FSC advantage to 19-1.

The Rams added a run in the fourth on a groundout to score their season-high 20th run of the game as they earned the game one win.

Cardenales and Midgett each finished with four RBI's, while Michalowski and Luna drove in three runs apiece.

Rams freshman pitcher Julia Walpole (Mahopac, N.Y.) (4-2) retired the final eight batters she faced and ended with four strikeouts in her complete game victory.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning of game two by Rams sophomore pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Pak, N.Y.), senior left fielder Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) singled to right field in the bottom half and was driven in two batters later on a Marietta Silliman (Hauppauge, N.Y.) single to tally FSC's first run of the contest.

In the bottom of the second, FSC junior catcher Emily Gaeta (Massapequa, N.Y.) led off the inning with a solo homerun to left field to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage. Later in the inning, an RBI walk with the bases loaded by Silliman brought the lead to 3-0.

Farmingdale State tallied a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning as Collard's shutout led the Rams to the sweep over Baruch.

Collard only allowed five baserunners on the day as she improved to 5-7 on the season.

Dailey finished the game 3-4 with a run scored, while Gaeta was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Baruch freshman third baseman Katherine DelRosario (Staten Island, N.Y.) was 2-3 in game two.

FSC is back at it tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, April 13th, as they face New Jersey City for another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
