Rams Split Women's Tennis Doubleheader

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team hosted a non-conference doubleheader today and split after a 6-3 loss against Ohio Northern and a 7-2 victory over UMass-Boston. The matches featured pro sets in singles play and the Rams now stand at 1-2 overall.

Against Ohio Northern (3-0), Farmingdale State's #1 doubles team of senior Priscilla Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Qurat-ul-ain Rai (Lahore, Pakistan) won 8-5 but the Rams trailed 2-1 heading into the singles matches.

In singles competition, Farmingdale State freshman Kayla Reidy (Sayville, N.Y.) posted an 8-2 victory, while Signore won her marathon match in the #1 position over ONU's Christina Corbeaun, 8-6.

Against UMass-Boston (1-1), the Rams claimed all three doubles matches en route to the 7-2 victory. At first doubles, Signore and Rai earned an 8-4 victory, while the pair of Tatiana Rosamilia (Malverne, N.Y.) and Kayla Reidy (Sayville, N.Y.) carded an 8-5 win in the second position. FSC's Celine Zollinger (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Carolann La Monica (Islip, N.Y.) edged out a 9-8 victory at third doubles to complete the sweep.

In singles, Signore (6-1, 6-3), Rosamilia (6-2, 6-0), Rai (3-6, 6-3, 1-0) and Reidy (6-4, 6-3) all earned wins for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will travel to William Paterson for a non-conference match on Wednesday, September 7th at 5:00 p.m.
