Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team split today's Skyline doubleheader with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, falling in game one 4-0 and rebounding in game two for a 3-1 victory. The Rams now stand at 14-12 overall, 12-4 in conference play.
The Bears (7-14, 4-12) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after an RBI single through the left side by junior left fielder Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y.).
St. Joe's-Brooklyn held a 2-0 advantage in the in the fifth and increased it to 3-0 on a Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y.) RBI double to center field. The Bears added an unearned run later in the inning to go ahead, 4-0.
Farmingdale State was held to one hit over the final three innings as they dropped game one, 4-0.
Junior pitcher Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win after a complete game three-hitter for the Bears.
In game two, the Bears took another 1-0 lead with a double to centerfield by sophomore pitcher Theresa Armano (Middle Village, N.Y.). The Rams tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on two hits, including a Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) RBI double to center.
Farmingdale State added two more runs in the second off a Kerri Ossenfort (Farmingdale, N.Y.) RBI single and a Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) RBI double down the left field line.
Freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) improved to 14-8 overall, allowing nine hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
FSC next will travel to Fordham University for a non-conference doubleheader versus NYU on Wednesday, April 20th at 3:30 p.m.
