Softball Records Doubleheader Split at St. Joseph's-LI

Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team traveled to St. Joseph's-LI for a conference doubleheader on Saturday and won 5-0 in the first game before falling, 7-4, in game two.

FSC (13-11, 11-3) senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) led off game one with a triple to left center and later scored on a Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to quickly take a 1-0 lead.

Michalowski led off the top of the fourth with a single through the left side and two batters later, freshman shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) homered to increase the FSC advantage to 3-0.

A two out RBI single from Michalowski in the fifth scored Anderson and put the Rams ahead, 4-0. Farmingdale State scored the final run of the game on a Rayfield RBI single to right in the seventh as FSC earned a 5-0 win in game one.

Rayfield finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a game-high 3 RBI, while Michalowski had two hits, 2 RBI and scored a run. Anderson was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for the Rams.

Freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the win after tossing a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out three.

In the second game, the Golden Eagles (15-11, 7-5) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first three innings until the Rams scored a run in the fourth on an RBI single by junior right fielder Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.).

In the top of the fifth, senior third baseman Cara Camerada (East Rockaway, N.Y.) led off with a double and moved to third on an Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) sac bunt. Anderson followed with an RBI single to right center to cut the deficit to 4-2. FSC used an RBI double from Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) and an RBI single by Michalowski to tie the game at 4-4.

With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, St. Joe's-LI took a 7-4 lead after senior Lindsey Corriss' (Sayville, N.Y.) bases clearing triple to right center. Farmingdale State was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning as they dropped game two, 7-4.

Anderson and Dailey each finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Golden Eagles were led by Corriss who was 3-for-4 with a run and 3 RBI.

The FSC softball team next will play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 17th at noon.
