Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team improved to 5-9 overall, 3-1 in Skyline play with two wins (6-0 and 10-1) over Purchase College (4-2, 2-2) today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams ended game one in the sixth inning with a two-run homerun, before an eight-run first inning in game two gave Farmingdale State an early advantage en route to the conference sweep.

In game one, the Rams took a 2-0 advantage on two hits and an error. Senior third baseman Cara Camerada (East Rockaway, N.Y.) led off the inning with a walk, then stole second before moving over to third on a groundout. Senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) singled up the middle to bring home Camerada for the first run of the inning. Junior left fielder Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) brought Anderson home with a single to right center.

In the sixth inning, Farmingdale State scored six runs to end the game by the run-rule, eight or more runs after five innings of play. Senior right fielder Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) scored first, followed by freshman shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.). Junior second baseman Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) hit a two-RBI single to score Camerada and junior Brittany Ciaramitaro (Levittown, N.Y.), before Anderson knocked a two RBI homerun over the right field fence to end the game.

In the second game, Purchase got on the board in the first inning with a fielder's choice bunt by junior catcher Briana Leon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to score freshman pitcher Lisa Kentris (Latham, N.Y.).

The Rams used eight hits in the bottom of the first to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Anderson led off with a single, stole second and came around on a sacrifice bunt by Dailey to tie the game at 1-1. Junior centerfielder Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Ciaramitaro, freshman rightfielder Ana Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.), junior second baseman Kerri Ossenfort (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Anderson and Dailey each added an RBI as the Rams added seven more runs.

Farmingdale went ahead 10-1 in the third after an Ossenfort RBI single and junior left fielder Alyssa Chirico's (North Bellmore, N.Y.) sacrifice fly.

Rams freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) improved to 5-5 with her two victories today, allowing just 11 hits in 11 innings with three strikeouts and just one earned run.

Farmingdale State will now host the College of Staten Island on Wednesday, March 30th at 4:00 p.m.
