Newburgh, N.Y. - With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Farmingdale State sophomore first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit a walk-off single to left field scoring Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) and leading the Rams to a 1-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in the Skyline Conference Softball Finals.
In the top of the third, The Knights (19-11) had runners on first and second with one out but senior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) retired the next two batters to end the threat.
Michalowski led off the bottom of the fourth with a double and advanced to third on a single by sophomore left fielder Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.). The Rams (21-12) were unable to break the 0-0 tie as the next three batters were retired in order.
In the top of the eighth, Tedeschi forced a fly out and back-to-back ground outs to keep the game tied 0-0.
Klarman led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to third base and senior center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) followed with a single to left field. After a Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) groundout, Michalowski recorded the game-winning hit for the Rams.
Mongiello, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Michalowski had two hits and an RBI. Tedeschi (10-7) threw a complete game allowing eight hits over eight innings of work.
The Knights were led by freshman designated player Courtney Barbra (Fishkill, N.Y.) who went 3-for-4 in the game.
Farmingdale State earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
