Webb and Tedeschi Earn Wins in Sweep of Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team earned 12-1 and 2-1 victories in a Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep of Purchase this afternoon. The Rams improved to 17-11 overall and 9-3 in the conference, while the Panthers dropped to 8-14, 4-10.

Farmingdale State scored eight runs in the top of the second capped off with a 3-run home run by sophomore first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

In the top of the third, the Rams increased their lead to 9-0 on a Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) RBI single which scored Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.). In FSC's next at-bat, sophomore Lauren Fischer (Mineola, N.Y.) hit a 2 RBI double to put the Rams ahead 11-0. Junior Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single, scoring Fischer and increasing the lead to 12-0.

Purchase scored one run in the fourth as the Rams captured game one 12-1 in five innings.

Monaco finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and 2 RBI, while Acton had three hits, an RBI and scored a run. Sophomore Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) and senior Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) were both 2-for-3 at the plate for FSC. Senior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing one run and striking out nine in five innings of work.

In game two, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI bunt single by sophomore Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.).

The Panthers tied the game in the third with a 2-out RBI single by Shannon Clancy (Babylon, N.Y.).

Klarman led off the top of the fifth with a single and advanced to second on an error before a Mongiello RBI double gave Farmingdale State a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers only had two hits over the final three innings as the Rams earned a 2-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. Senior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded the victory after allowing one run on seven hits in seven innings.

The Rams close out the regular season tomorrow with a conference doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary beginning at noon.
