Rams Fall in Doubleheader with St. Joe's

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team lost two games today to conference opponent St. Joseph's (L.I.), 6-2 and 7-1. The Rams are now 12-10, 5-3 in Skyline play, while the Golden Eagles improved to 16-11, 9-2 Skyline.

In the bottom of the third, Farmingdale State took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double to center by senior Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). In the Rams next at-bat, an RBI single to center by senior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) increased the advantage to 2-0.

After St. Joe's scored a run in the fifth, senior designated player Nicole Reda (St. James, N.Y.) hit a game-tying solo home run in the sixth. After back-to-back Golden Eagles walks, junior left fielder Lindsey Corris (Sayville, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to center to put St. Joe's on top 3-2.

The Golden Eagles added three runs in the top of the seventh as they earned the 6-2 game one victory.

Farmingdale State was led by sophomore second baseman Brittany Ciaramitaro (Levittown, N.Y.) who was 3-for-4 while Mongiello was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Corris had a game-high four hits, RBI and one run scored for St. Joe's. Junior pitcher Mallory McClafferty (Bellport, N.Y.) earned the win allowing only two runs.

Leading 3-0 in the top of the fifth, a two-run home run by senior centerfielder Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y.) put St. Joe's ahead 5-0, before adding a run in each of the last two innings to secure a 7-1 win in game two.

Sophomore second baseman Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run batted in.

The Golden Eagles had four players with at least two hits, highlighted by Tierney who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a game-high three RBI's. Freshman pitcher Lauren Buturla (Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded the win allowing one run on five hits.

Farmingdale State will now travel to face NYU at Fordham University on Thursday, April 16th in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
