Rams Earn Pair of Walk-Off Wins over Sage

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team opened their Skyline Conference schedule today with a doubleheader against The Sage Colleges. The Rams took game one, 4-3 in extra innings, and game two was stopped due to darkness.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, sophomore second baseman Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) hit a one out double to left center and later scored on an Kerri Ossenfort (Farmingdale, N.Y.) RBI single, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Rams tield the game on an RBI single up the middle by junior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.).

Sage regained the lead in the top of the third, 3-2, on a solo homerun to left field by freshman second baseman Alexa Silk (Freehold, N.Y.). With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Farmingdale State's senior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) hit a game-tying single to left center which scored Anderson and forced extra innings.

Sage did not score in the eighth but stranded two runners on base. Junior designated player Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) led off the eighth with a single to shortstop and in the Rams next at-bat Dailey reached base on a fielding error. With two outs, Anderson hit the game-winning sac fly to left field which scored Action and gave Farmingdale State the 4-3 game one victory.

Anderson was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Mongiello was 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run batted in. Senior Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) earned the win after throwing a complete game allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts.

The Gators were led by freshman left fielder Alana Vandenburg (Wynantskill, N.Y.) who had two hits and two RBI. Silk went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

In the second game, Sage went ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a two-run homer by Silk.

The Rams used four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead 6-4, but with one out in the bottom of the sixth the game was called due to darkness. Farmingdale State was awarded the win by the NCAA Softball Called Game Rule 6.16.1.2.

Farmingdale State next travels to the College of Staten Island on Friday, April 3rd for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
