Winter Haven, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell to Rowan and Ramapo this afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second against Rowan, Farmingdale State senior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) led off with a single and advanced to second on a Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) sac bunt. Monaco would score later in the inning on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
Rowan regained the lead in the bottom of the second and added two runs in the third to extend their advantage to 4-1.
The Rams cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth inning on a Monaco RBI triple which scored Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). Rowan responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as they earned the 6-2 victory and improved to 11-0 on the season.
Mongiello was 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Monaco was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded the loss after allowing five earned runs in six innings.
Rowan was led by freshman left fielder Mia Baldassari (Hopatcong, N.J.) who had a team-high three hits, while senior center fielder Shannon Costello (East Brunswick, N.J.) was 2-or-3 with two runs scored. Freshman pitcher Ashley Lesch (Rockaway, N.J.) earned the win after allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work.
In the second game of the afternoon against Ramapo, the Roadrunners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a first inning run.
In the bottom of the first, Monaco tied the game with an RBI single through the left side which scored junior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) who had reached on a throwing error.
In the bottom of the third, sophomore shortstop Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) hit a 1-out single to left and advanced to second on a Mongiello single through the left side. After an Acton sacrifice bunt, Monaco hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.
Ramapo scored three runs in the fifth to regain the lead, 4-2. The Roadrunners added five in the sixth and four in the seventh to earn a 13-2 victory.
Monaco batted 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Mongiello added two hits for the Rams.
Junior catcher Melissa Moreno (Cranford, N.J.) was 3-for-4 with two runs and 4 RBI for Ramapo. Freshman pitcher Katrina Buczkowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) earned the win after tossing a complete game allowing one earned run and striking out seven.
Farmingdale State (3-5) will wrap up their spring trip with a pair of games on Monday. The Rams will face Springfield at 10:00 a.m. and Cortland State at 2:30 p.m.
