Anderson Shines in Pair of FSC Victories

Winter Haven, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team opened the 2015 season with victories over Beloit and Mitchell College at the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla. 

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth against Beloit College (0-5), sophomore second baseman Kerri Ossenfort (Farmingdale, N.Y.) hit a 2-out single through the right side and later scored on an RBI triple by junior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.).

Tied 1-1 in the sixth, Farmingdale State sophomore first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit a leadoff home run to left field which put the Rams ahead, 2-1.

Leading 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, senior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) retired Beloit in order as the Rams earned a 2-1 season opening victory.

Anderson was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Michalowski batted 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Starting pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) allowed one run and one hit in four innings of work, while Tedeschi recorded the win after tossing three scoreless innings of relief.

In the game against Mitchell College (0-10), Farmingdale State scored two runs in each of the first four innings to open up an 8-0 advantage. After a 3-run fifth inning by Mitchell, the Rams added one more in the bottom of the sixth as they won, 9-3.

Anderson was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, scored two runs and had 2 RBI, while sophomore center fielder Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs scored. Senior left fielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore second baseman Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each tallied two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the win.

Tedeschi (2-0) allowed one earned run on three hits in five innings of work.

Through the first two games of the season, Anderson is batting a team-leading .778.

Today, Farmingdale State will face Catholic at 10:00 a.m. and Wheaton (Mass.) at 12:15 p.m.
