Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell 6-2 and 7-2 to visiting Mount Saint Mary College today in their conference opener. The Rams fell to 7-7 overall, 0-2 in Skyline while the Knights improved to 6-4, 2-0.
In game one, the Rams tied the game 1-1 in the first with an RBI single by freshman designated hitter Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.). Mount Saint Mary used a big inning in the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to hold a 6-1 lead. Farmingdale got a run back in the sixth, but the Knights would take a 6-2 win.
Freshman first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) finished 2-for-2 with a homerun in the sixth inning, her second of the year.
Mount Saint Mary took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two and pushed the lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the top of the third. The Rams responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning with three hits to cut the deficit to 3-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Knights put the game away with four runs on five hits and would hold us in the bottom of the inning for the 7-2 victory.
Junior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
The Rams will host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline doubleheader on Sunday, March 23rd at Noon.
