Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team started Skyline Conference play with a two game sweep over Old Westbury. The Rams improved to 5-7 on the season and 2-0 in the conference, while the Panthers dropped to 5-5, 0-2.

In game one, Old Westbury scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Farmingdale State cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning on a Marissa Brightman (Bay Shore, N.Y.) RBI single which scored Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.). 

After sophomore right fielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.) reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, a pair of sacrifice bunts advanced Johrden to third base. In the Rams next at-bat, sophomore center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

Farmingdale State scored four runs in the sixth inning to open up a 6-2 advantage. The Panthers were held scoreless in the final inning as the Rams capped off the comeback victory.

Senior first baseman Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Johrden was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) batted 1-for-3 with a run scored and 3 RBI for Farmingdale State.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) improved to 3-3 on the season after throwing a complete game allowing one earned run and seven hits.

In the second game, the Rams broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth on a Jarczynski single which scored Mongiello.

Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) held Old Westbury hitless over the final three innings en route to the 1-0 victory.

Webb improved to 2-4 on the season after tossing a complete game shutout allowing only one hit, while striking out six.

The Rams next will host St. Joseph's in a Skyline doubleheader on Sunday, March 24th at noon.
