Box Score #2 Farmingdale State - 5, #3 St. Joseph's - 3
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The #2 seed Farmingdale State women's tennis team posted an exciting 5-3 victory over #3 seed St. Joseph's. With the win, the Rams improved to 9-4 overall and will advance to the Skyline Finals for the first time in school history.
Farmingdale State held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with 8-3 wins at both 1st and 2nd doubles. St. Joe's took an 8-3 victory at #3 doubles.
In the singles competion, the Rams third victory came at #1 singles by sophomore Jessica Sickles (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) with a 6-1, 6-0 match over St. Joe's Nancy Marroquin. At #2 singles, sophomore Alex Bentz (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) posted the 4th win for Farmingdale with a 6-2, 6-3 game over Katie Soeder.
St. Joe's picked up wins at #5 and 6 singles to stay in the match, trailing 4-3 with two singles matches left to finish. But senior Laura Earlie (Moriches, N.Y.) would win the 5th and final match for Farmingdale State, a 7-5, 6-1 win over Cristina Valente, to send her team to the Championship game and a chance for a first-ever Skyline Title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Rams will face the winner of tonight's other Skyline Semifinal match in Goshen, N.Y. - #1 Mount Saint Mary / #4 Purchase, which started at 8:30 p.m. The Championship game will take place on Saturday, October 27th, at the highest remaining seed.
