Men Place 23rd, Women 27th at ECAC

Springfield, Mass. - The Farmingdale State
men's and women's outdoor track teams each scored 10 points to
place 23rd and 27th respectively at the ECAC Championships held at
Springfield College. There were 72 teams from the east
participating with 48 scoring in the men's and 50 scoring in the
women's meet.
The top scoring for the women's team was freshman MVP Corine
Magee (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd). Magee placed third in the
200m (25.62), sixth in the 100m (12.52) and teamed with Victoria
Mandat, Kathleen Clermont and Faustine Chukwuezi on the eighth
place 4x100m relay. The teams score and place was the highest in
the programs history.
The men's team had four scorers at the ECAC Championships.
Junior Qasim Ellis (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) placed fourth in
the triple jump with a jump of 14.17m (46' 5 3/4"). Junior Jeff St.
Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y./South Farmingdale) placed eighth in the
same event with a jump of 13.97m (45' 10"). Junior Greg Denis
(Tallahassee, Fla./Elmont Memorial), the outdoor track Most
Valuable Player, ran a personal best 54.81 for the 400m
intermediate hurdles to place sixth. His time of 54.81 places him
third on the Farmingdale State College All-Time List. Freshman
Donnell Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) placed eighth
in the long jump with a leap of 6.56m (21' 6").
Farmingdale State has two provisional qualifiers for the NCAA
Division III Championships which will be held at Baldwin Wallace
College in Cleveland, Ohio on May 27-29. Magee qualified in the
100m (12.25) and 200m (25.03), while Chukwuezi triple jumped 11.38m
(37' 4") to qualify.
